Childcare is provided for children age birth through eight years old.
“Circle of Security” parenting class is primarily designed for caregivers of children four months of age through six years old, although it can be utilized with children outside the specified ages. This class provides caregivers with tools to connect with their children, understand how to recognize cues between the caregiver and child, help children manage their emotions, encourage independence and exploration while building a solid emotional foundation for your child.
The class allows time for discussion and reflection. New concepts are shared each week and caregivers have opportunities to implement and experience the concepts at home with their children before attending the next session. There will be opportunities to discuss and clarify concepts during each class.
Wilkes Community Partnership for Children is excited about sharing this valuable information with caregivers in our area. Through class discussions, we have felt a part of the success stories shared by caregivers as relationships with their children became more secure. For example, one mother shared that this class helped her realize that she was conveying her personal fears of separation created from trauma during her own childhood to her child. After this realization, she described the independence her child was developing through the mom’s new awareness and guidance.
Quote from a mother who attended the previous class. “My main take away from this class was that I needed to allow time to “delight” in my child. Recognizing positive choices that my children made was very important to them. Also, I didn’t realize how my reactions greatly impacted the behavior of my children. As a mother, I feel stretched thin but “Circle of Security has made me realize that I am “enough.”
