Ready, Set, Learn

Wilkes Community Partnership for Children is hosting satellite KINDERGARTEN READINESS classes for children entering kindergarten. This program runs from September 2024 to May 2025. Program participants will learn and practice skills with caregivers and children side-by-side. Facilitators will provide home learning opportunities for participating families. Caregivers will remain with their children at all times during Ready, Set, Learn. The skills and strategies families will learn are the same as those taught in Pre-K classrooms. Research shows that when students begin school proficient in “readiness skills” they are much more successful for their entire school career. Our goal is for ALL children in Wilkes County to be ready for kindergarten! This program is completely free to families that participate.

This program meets one day per week from 8:30-11:30am. At one of the following locations:

• Cherry Grove Baptist Church, Hwy 115
• Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, CB Eller School District
• Millers Creek Methodist, Millers Creek School District
• North Wilkesboro Methodist, North Wilkesboro School District
• La Escuelita, Moravian Falls District
• Mountain View/Traphill Location TBD

Ready, Set, Learn will focus on the five domains of school readiness:

• Approaches to Play and Learning,
• Emotional and Social Development,
• Health and Physical Development,
• Language and Communication Development and
• Cognitive Development.

Kindergarten readiness not only includes cognitive skills, literacy and math, but also social-emotional, physical and language skills.
